Background information
For the best part of a century, the Crawford School of Art served both as an art school and the city's public art gallery. The Art School is now housed in a separate building and the gallery on Emmet Place has been extended adding the Modern Galleries, Watercolour Room, Print Room and Harry Clarke (Stained Glass) Room. The collection is widely representative of Irish nineteenth-century art, and Irish and British art of the twentieth century. The Sculpture Galleries house an important collection of antique classical casts and the Gallery runs a programme of temporary exhibitions of Irish and international art.
