Background information
Founded in 1874 from the bequest of the artists and collector Thomas Stuart Smith. Houses fine collections of Scottish painting and British art of the 19th century. Also has one of the least known Scottish history collections including the oldest curling stone in the world (1511), the Stirling Jug (1457) and the collection of Bannockburn tartans. Exhibition programme includes contemporary art and craft.
