Background information
The Watts Gallery is the memorial to George Frederic Watts OM, RA, the famous Victorian painter and sculptor. The Arts and Crafts Movement Gallery, purpose built in 1903, houses over 250 of his works. Works by other Victorian Artists are included in the Collection. The Gallery was built near Watts's country house in Compton among the beautiful countryside of the North Downs. The tranquil atmosphere of the beginning of the century lingers on to provide visitors with a welcome antidote to the speed of life in the present day.

If you visit this gallery do not miss the Watts Chapel, built by Watts' widow and his students this is probably the best example of an arts and crafts style painted building I have ever seen. It is quite simple on the outside but the interior is breathtaking.
