Background information
St Andrews University Collections are not housed in a museum building but are dispersed throughout the University's buildings. The collections are accessible to the public by appointment only. There are no admission charges. Parts of the collection are exhibited every year, usually in the St. Andrew's Museum (the town's museum). There are 9 separate collections: Geology, Chemistry, Ethnography, Amerindian, Historic Scientific Instruments (Physics Department), Psychology, Bell Pettigrew Museum (Zoology), Anatomy and Pathology, and the Heritage Collections. The latter includes paintings, silver, archeology, furniture and a collection of communion tokens. The University Library also owns an important photographic collection.
